Can Handmade Ceramic Tiles Be Used Around a Fireplace?
Glazed ceramic tiles are a wonderful way to add colour and pattern to fireplaces and wood-burning stove surrounds. Milagros tiles have been used successfully around fireplaces, on decorative hearths and behind wood-burning stoves.
As with any fireplace installation, however, it is important to distinguish between the decorative tile and the construction beneath it. The suitability of a tiled surface will depend on the type of fire or stove, the temperatures it produces, the distance of the tiles from the heat source and the materials used behind and beneath the tiles.
For working fireplaces and wood-burning stoves, the installation should comply with current Building Regulations and the appliance manufacturer's instructions. We recommend asking your stove or fireplace installer to confirm that the proposed position and substrate are suitable before the tiles are installed.
Milagros glazed wall tiles are not sold as firebricks and should not be used inside a firebox or anywhere they will be exposed directly to flames.
For hearths, our decorative glazed tiles are best used in areas that will not be regularly walked or stood upon, as they are primarily wall tiles rather than floor tiles.
