Norberto Fabian Xuana, the son of master Oaxacan woodcarver Ventura Fabian, has been involved in the woodcarving industry since birth. Ventura had already progressed from carving masks for local festivals to producing his own distinctive dancing chickens and other fantastic animals, but his mother's family, the Xuanas, were also well-known in the Oaxacan woodcarving community. ​Norberto Fabian Xuana and his partner, Blanca Estela Melchor Mendez, are prominent figures in the Oaxacan woodcarving tradition.​ Today Norberto and his wife Blanca are prominent artists in the wood carving tradition. Together, they continue the artistic legacy of Norberto's father, Ventura Fabian, while incorporating their own vibrant style and innovative techniques.
