Colourful Glassware

Milagros’ colourful glassware is handmade in Mexico by skilled glassmakers using traditional techniques that date back over a thousand years. Made from recycled glass — often reclaimed bottles — the molten glass is melted down and re-blown into beautiful, functional objects.

Hand-Made Mexican Coloured Glassware

Milagros works with Mexican glassmakers with whom we have collaborated for over thirty-five years. These collections celebrate the craftsmanship of Mexico and the Mexican aesthetic of bold and bright colours.

We offer four collections: Confetti Glassware, Coloured Glassware, Two-Colour Glassware and Engraved Glassware. Within each collection are tumblers, wine glasses, jugs, carafes and vases in a range of shapes, colours and sizes.

Every piece is handmade, creating a unique dialogue between material, maker, eye, hand and breath. Glassmaking demands both strength and agility; watching the glassmakers at work can resemble a ballet, as they move gracefully around the furnace, shaping glowing molten glass into form.

How our glassware is made

Confetti Glassware is created by rolling or pressing small chips and fragments of coloured glass (“confetti”) into hot, clear glass, producing lively, speckled surfaces full of colour and movement.

Coloured Glassware is made when the glassmaker gathers molten clear glass onto a blowing rod and dips it into coloured molten glass or coloured glass frit, forming a coloured layer — almost like a glove around the clear glass. Different minerals and oxides produce different colours.

Engraved Glassware begins as hand-blown glass, which, once cooled, is decorated by skilled artisans. Patterns are engraved directly onto the surface using rotating abrasive wheels, engraving tools, or hand-etching techniques to cut, carve or frost the glass.

Two-Colour and Coloured-Edge Glassware is created by dipping part of the hot glass into molten coloured glass or applying colour with a specialised tool. The coloured glass fuses to the surface, creating a distinctive coloured rim, lip or layered effect. The piece is carefully reheated and turned to ensure the colour is smooth, balanced and integrated with the form.

Character of recycled glass

Recycled glass is naturally rich in character. Small bubbles, tooling marks and subtle variations are inherent qualities of the material and part of its beauty. Each piece bears the gentle traces of the maker’s hand.

Our glassware is hand-finished. On the underside of many pieces, you may notice the small mark where the glass is separated from the blowing rod — a subtle “belly button” of the glass that speaks to its handmade origin.

Designed for everyday life

Our colourful tableware is designed for daily use — equally suited to summer drinks, winter nightcaps, dinner parties and midweek family meals. Glasses can be collected in a single colour palette or mixed across colours and styles according to personal taste.

The tumblers and wine glasses are dishwasher-friendly, while we recommend washing jugs and vases by hand. Recycled glass is typically slightly thicker than finely blown glass, giving it durability alongside its handmade beauty. Our clear ribbed glassware, in particular, offers an affordable and practical option for everyday use.

Milagros glassware has been selected by the V&A, Wahaca, Fenwick and The Hoxton Hotel, among others.

Orders usually arrive within 5–7 working days (often sooner), or may be collected from our London shop or Bristol warehouse, with collection options available at checkout.
