Saint paintings by the Lorenzo family
Lucas Lorenzo and his two sons, Jesus and Aurelliano Lorenzo, create these saint paintings. As well as saints, they depict the Virgin, Jesus, Mexican wrestlers, devils and Subcomandante Marcos (the masked leader of Mexico’s Zapatista National Liberation Army), who are all colourfully joined together in an unlikely harmony across the ages. The paintings are often set in typically Mexican landscapes of volcanoes, small villages and the Feast of Flowers. Painted on hardboard with enamel paints, these artworks come from the state of Guerrero, which has a long tradition of painting rural scenes on bark paper. The Lorenzo family has used this tradition as a starting point, adopting an individual approach to its paintings. We stock an ever-changing collection of paintings. The paintings each measure 30 x 20cm and cost £22 each.
