Opening
times 9am to 3pm evey Sunday or by appointment
Our
shop is open on Sunday in the old Jewish flower market.
Columbia Road is situated in the East End with Shoreditch
to the west, Brick Lane, Spita Fields and the City
to the south. It is part of the East End of London
that escaped being bombed during the war and retains
a Dickensian mood. It is often used as a film location.
On
Sunday the street is transformed into oasis of foliage
and flowers. Everything from bedding plants to 10
foot banana trees are up for grabs. The air is intense
with the scent of flowers and the chant of the barrow
boys “Everthin a fiver”. There are a variety
of shops that line the market pot shops, antique shops,
art galleries, food shops, as well as great independent
cafes and pubs.
Parking
isn’t problem as long as you park on the north
side of the Hackney Road avoiding Tower Hamlets. Beware;
it is reach pickings for traffic wardens on a Sunday.
Otherwise there are train and underground services
at Liverpool Street and Old Street.
The
buses are the 26 from Waterloo to Hackney Wick, the
48 from Walthamstow to Leyton via London Bridge and
the 55 from Oxford Circus to Leyton. They all stop
opposite Columbia Road along the Hackney Road. But
throw away your A to Z, follow your nose, your ears
and walk in the opposite direction of the swaying,
staggering 10ft trees.
